The Trump family has had no problems settling into Washington D.C. With several of the Trump children serving with their dad in various capacities and all of his adult children joining him on the campaign trail, it’s obvious that this first family are no stranger to the spotlight.
As his name would suggest, Don Jr. has followed in his father’s footsteps in many ways. And why wouldn’t he? He has become a successful businessman and has a beautiful growing family. He also did a little time in reality TV, like his dad.
Trump is now saying that he’d like to emulate his dad in a big way. According to Page Six:
Don Jr. spoke to members of the F6 Labs gun club in Hicksville, NY, and, when asked about his political ambitions, said he would love to follow his father, President Donald Trump, into office.
A guest at Tuesday’s meeting told Page Six, “Don Jr. said he is interested in running for office, such as governor of New York, but the position of mayor of New York would be less interesting to him.”
Don Jr. added that he didn’t want to be one of 100 Senators, nor a member of Congress.
Apparently, campaigning alongside dear old dad woke something inside of Don Jr. He said:
“Do I want to be behind the scenes and be a mouthpiece and fight back against crazy liberal media? Maybe. Going back to doing deals is boring after 18 months. The politics bug bit me.”
Obviously, the voracious business sense isn’t the only thing that runs in the family. The ability to not just stand up to adversity, but thrive in that kind of environment isn’t something that comes naturally to all, but obviously, it does to the Trump clan.
Other sources close to Trump say that Jr. doesn’t plan to run for office anytime soon and that he’s focused on running the Trump Organization with his brother. However, it sure looks like he’s laying the groundwork for a governor’s bid. He hasn’t said when he’d like to run against incumbent Gov. Andrew Cuomo, but Cuomo is up for re-election in 2018. Though he’s been named as a possible presidential candidate for 2020, so maybe he wouldn’t put up too much of a fight against Trump Jr.
Obviously, Donald Trump Jr. doesn’t have a political background, but neither did his dad and they’ve proved that you don’t always need one. Apparently, a good head for business and a little elbow grease will get you a long way with the disillusioned voters in America today. If his plans in any way mirror his fathers, I would personally wish him the best of luck. We need more people in office who know how to balance a checkbook.
